Eng. K.A Weerarathna

Senior Civil Engineer / Project Management Professional

Weerarathne is a highly accomplished Chartered Civil Engineer with over three decades of extensive experience in transmission line construction, power infrastructure development, and large-scale civil engineering projects across Sri Lanka and East Africa. His distinguished career spans project management, construction management, contract administration, and strategic operational leadership in both local and international environments. 

With strong expertise in high-voltage transmission systems including 400kV, 220kV, 132kV, and 33kV networks, Weerarathne has successfully led numerous ADB, JICA, and other internationally funded projects under Ceylon Electricity Board and foreign utilities. His broad exposure includes rural electrification schemes, underground cable systems, grid substations, hydropower projects, combined cycle power plants, and telecommunications infrastructure. 

As a Project Manager and Country Manager, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams, overseeing project budgets and cash flow, administering contracts and subcontracts, coordinating with consultants and government authorities, and ensuring timely and cost-effective project delivery. His international experience in Uganda further highlights his capability in cross-cultural management and large-scale operational oversight.

  • Over 30 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, specializing in high-voltage power transmission line construction including 400kV, 220kV, 132kV, and 33kV networks, grid substations, underground cable systems, and rural electrification projects in Sri Lanka and East Africa.
  • Extensive project leadership experience as Project Manager, Construction Manager, Site Manager, and Country Manager, overseeing multidisciplinary engineering teams, subcontractors, and international workforces to deliver large-scale infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
  • Strongexpertisein project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, cash flow management, contract administration, tender preparation, and stakeholder coordination with clients, consultants, funding agencies, and government authorities. 
  • Proventrack recordin managing internationally funded projects under ADB and JICA frameworks, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards, safety regulations, and financial controls. 
  • International exposure in Uganda, successfully leading transmission line and rural electrification projects while managing operational, financial, and cross-cultural coordination responsibilities.
