Introducing ACLARA Grid Monitoring Solution:
Enhancing Power System Reliability

Banner_1.2

The Aclara Grid Monitoring solution can be deployed on the 35kV overhead line network to detect and report fault events including momentary, line disturbance, and permanent faults, including impedance to fault and direction of fault from a Sensor, as well as collecting load data and direction of power flow. Fault event data is made available via Aclara Sensor Management System (SMS) software service which can be configured to give access to interested persons. Fault events are supported by waveform capture and export to COMTRADE, Aclara can assist operational engineers with waveform analysis.

The Aclara Power Sensor can be installed on live lines up to 48kV, and conductors up to 402 mm2. The Sensors have inductively powered no batteries, 20 year MTBF means they are maintenance-free for the life of the Sensor. The Aclara Sensors do not have any mechanical or visible indicators on the sensors themselves they report all faults automatically via email, text message, and over the GSM network to Sensor Management System (SMS) software which can be sent on to SCADA using DNP protocol. For detailed technical specifications please see attached data sheets.

The Aclara Grid Monitoring solution can be used to give advanced notice of developing network issues through the use of momentary & line disturbance events and when permanent faults occur can be used to identify the location of faults, reducing walk-the-line distance, travel time, and time to resolve the fault.

Nevertheless, by having this type of Grid monitoring system, the power system reliability will be improved. Hence, we can ensure customer satisfaction with less power failures.
